I made my first sgian dubh for myself (pictured in the banner) when I was unable to find a quality, handmade, authentic sgian dubh that was reasonably priced and would be comfortable to wear all day. My Sgian Dubh are one-of-a-kind, no two are ever exactly alike, and all come with soft natural leather sheaths. The handles are shaped to fit comfortably against the leg.

How to Care for your Sgian Dubh

Handles:
A soft cloth can be used to buff the handle and bring out the natural shine. I don't recommend using polishes or waxes, but if you do, I suggest testing a small area on the back as these can affect the color of the wood.

Blades:
Carbon steel blades will rust; care should be taken to keep the blades dry and protected. For this I recommend a quality gun oil such as Hoppes or Rem Oil, do not use food grade or vegetable oils. If your blade does develope rust, using a fine grade steel wool or soft scrubbing pad along with the oil will remove the rust, some discoloration will remain, but this does not harm the blade. Regular treatments with oil will help protect the blade and the sheath.
